SAP and non-SAP decommissioning

SAP and non-SAP legacy system decommissioning simplified

The case for decommissioning

Why should you consider legacy system decommissioning? Over time, organisations accumulate many legacy systems that are rarely accessed but contain huge amounts of data. These systems must be kept and maintained due to legal regulations or because some of the data still has business value.

Holding this data doesn’t benefit the bottom line, but comes at an enormous cost, both in terms of running expenses and a data footprint that makes moving to new cloud systems very expensive.

Decommissioning can add significant value in scenarios such as mergers and acquisitions, divestments or moving to the cloud to name a few.

Save money

Running and maintaining older systems can be very expensive because of infrastructure, hardware and software support costs, not to mention internal personnel costs. By retiring legacy systems, you can make savings of up to 80% of the total cost of ownership.

Drive sustainability

Typically, legacy systems have higher power consumption and space requirements compared to modern systems. By reducing and moving your data, you will be contributing towards your organisation’s environmental objectives.

Reduce business risk

Legacy system landscapes come with business risks. Older hardware can be unreliable, and some software may no longer be supported. Your organisation could also face large fines if these systems no longer comply with new legal or audit requirements.

Minimise opportunity costs

Maintaining older systems takes away resources both in terms of personnel and costs, when these could be better deployed on more innovative projects. Move these resources to strategic business priorities instead of ‘keeping the lights on’.

In today’s ever-changing technological landscape with a drive for innovation, digitalisation and business knowledge, simplifying system environments has become business critical.

How Proceed can help

Decommissioning multiple redundant legacy systems can no longer be put on the back burner, but where do you start? This is where our expert team will help to assess your system environments and build a compelling business case and project plan. We will then go into realisation mode, all the way from the first piece of data being extracted until you can successfully shut down the legacy system.

Planning your project

The success of any project lies in the planning. We have over 20 years’ experience managing data management projects, so you can rest assured your decommissioning project is in safe hands.

Assessment

We review your current legacy system landscape, determining business requirements, space savings and overall costs.

Business case

We develop a business case model considering your existing costs and the overall costs of decommissioning.

Project plan

We create a project blueprint outlining each step, from getting your data into the new system, to shutting down your legacy systems.

Realisation of your project

By using Proceed, the realisation of a decommissioning project is made easy. The extraction is robust and fast, access to the data is simple, and there are many storage options available. Ultimately, your organisation will be able to shut down legacy applications and release the associated costs.

Extraction

100% of data is extracted from the source systems, including all attachments.

Storage

Data is stored in more modern and cost-effective on-premise or cloud-based storage.

Access

All data accessible via Proceed Cella/combined with SAP ILM. Data is validated and users are trained.

Shut down

Legacy systems can be shut down, releasing the associated costs and resources.

Products used for decommissioning

SAP Information Lifecycle Management (ILM)

The SAP ILM product feature set extends beyond the retention management of data, it also focusses on the end-of-life of systems.  It allows for the extraction of data from legacy systems, importing it into a data warehouse and provides the ability for reporting to be build on top of this data. Proceed is experts at SAP ILM and we’ve helped hundreds of customers with their implementations.

SAP ILM works hand-in-hand with Proceed Cella.

What the industry thinks
